Brandi Gabbard: Leading a Vision for St. Petersburg’s Future
Brandi Gabbard is an experienced public servant and local business leader with a record of bringing people together to address our most pressing needs and protect St. Petersburg’s quality of life.
Brandi Gabbard has spent her career proving that positive change is possible when local government works in true partnership with the community. As a member of City Council for nearly a decade, she has consistently championed initiatives that strengthen our neighborhoods, from expanding access to affordable housing and supporting the growth of small businesses to lowering flood insurance costs for everyday families. Her leadership extends far beyond City Hall; as a regional authority, she chaired the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council and currently leads the Regional Resilience Coalition. She has served as a transit advocate through her work with Forward Pinellas and has been a strong voice on the need for better regional collaboration with our friends across Tampa Bay. Through innovation and collaboration, Brandi has moved the needle on coastal resilience, ensuring our city is better prepared for the challenges of a rapidly growing coastal region.
Her deep connection to this community began in 2003 when she and her husband, Keith, moved to St. Petersburg. Soon after moving to the area, Brandi launched her into a successful real estate career, where her passion for advocacy quickly established her as a prominent voice for sustainable development and climate-resilience. Her expertise has taken her to Tallahassee and Washington, D.C., where she has fought for the protection of homeownership and the lowering of insurance costs, efforts that led her industry peers to select her as the Chair of the National Association of Realtors Insurance Committee in 2018. This professional background provides her with a unique perspective on the importance of zoning and land use, a deep understanding of how market trends impact city budgets, and a firm commitment to protecting the significant investments residents have made in their homes.
Brandi is running for Mayor because she believes St. Petersburg has reached a critical turning point where reactive decision-making and missed opportunities can no longer be the status quo. To get our city back on track, she is committed to the same principled leadership she has demonstrated on the City Council. By reestablishing a culture of accountability and transparency at City Hall, Brandi will tackle the pressing challenges of public safety and housing while exploring innovative, bold solutions to lower the cost of living for every household.
Her track record proves she has the courage to challenge the “business as usual” approach, whether she is shining a spotlight on the need for a healthier workplace culture for our dedicated employees or advocating for a planning-first framework for the Historic Gas Plant District. Brandi has consistently shown the tenacity to press pause and “level up” to ensure that development serves the people and protects the investments residents have made in their own neighborhoods. As Mayor, she will lead with that same relentless energy, listening to the community, working around the clock, and ensuring that City Hall remains focused on doing the right thing for every corner of St. Petersburg.
